CAMPUS EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

* ATTENTION SENIORS:
The UCI Alumni Association hosts an OPEN HOUSE for GRADUATING SENIORS: September 30 through October 4, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Phineas Banning Alumni House.

* UCI ATHLETICS invites you to watch MEN’S SOCCER vs. University of New Mexico: October 1, 7 p.m., Anteater Soccer Stadium. Admission is free.

* The HENRY SAMUELI SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING launches the HENRY AND SUSAN SAMUELI – LEONARDO DA VINCI LECTURE SERIES: October 3, 6 p.m., McDonnell Douglas Engineering Auditorium. The first speaker will be BARBARA M. STAFFORD, Professor of Art History, University of Chicago, and curator of “Devices of Wonder,” the recent exhibit at the Getty Museum. The topic will be “Artificial Intensity: Images, Instruments and the Technology of Amplification,” an exploration of the historical intersection of art and technology. Admission is free. * The LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER RESOURCE CENTER presents CANDACE GINGRICH, National Coming Out Day spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign: October 4, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Cross-Cultural Center. Candace will discuss the importance of coming out, and promote National Coming Out Day. Admission is free. For information call 824-3277.

* UCI CAMPUS RECREATION announces the following events.

- BLOOD DRIVE: October 3, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Anteater Recreation Center (ARC), Backcourt Gym. Sign up by calling 824-3539.

- CLASSES start this week at the ARC. Register at the ARC, 2nd floor, or by calling 824-3738.

- INTRAMURAL SPORTS Fall League sign-ups are underway at the ARC, 2nd floor. The DEADLINE is October 8, 5 p.m. Sports include: 3-on-3 Basketball, Volleyball, Flag Football, Speed Soccer, and Co-Rec 5-on-5 Basketball. Call 824-3738.

* The UCI FILM SOCIETY introduces its film series, OTROS MUNDOS! CONTEMPORARY VISIONS OF LATIN AMERICA, with the screening of EL MARIACHI (Robert Rodriguez, 1993): October 4, 7 and 9 p.m., UCI Student Center, Crystal Cove Auditorium. Tickets are $4.

* The UCI CROSS-CULTURAL ADVISORY BOARD meets every other Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Cross-Cultural Center. Email akgonzal@uci.edu or visit http://www.ccc.uci.edu.

* October 11 is the last day to ADD/DROP/CHANGE a class without a service fee of $3.00 and the last day to change grade option or variable units without your dean’s signature. Check with your academic counseling office for any overriding school policies.

CLUB EVENTS AND MEETINGS

* The ANTEATER PEP/MARCHING BAND holds rehearsals Mondays, 6 p.m. for drumline and 7 p.m. for winds, Arts Instruction and Technology Resource Center, Room 196. Two units available.

* Do you like to sing, play a musical instrument, and enjoy music? UNITING VOICES invites you to an information meeting: September 30, 6 to 8 p.m., Rowland Hall, Room 101. No experience is necessary.

* The ROLE PLAYING GAMES CLUB will have its first general meeting: September 30, 7 p.m., Social Science Lab, Room 159.

* The PAN AMERICAN LATINO SOCIETY (PALS) will have its first general meeting for those interested in learning about the Latino cultures: September 30, 8 p.m., Social Science Lab, Room 290.

* The UCI ROLLER HOCKEY CLUB will hold its first recreational pickup game of the year at the grand opening of the ARC Hockey Rink: September 30, 8 to 10 p.m. Those interested in competing in the Collegiate Roller Hockey League must attend a mandatory team tryout: October 2, 6:30 to 9 p.m., ARC Hockey Rink.

* The ASIAN AMERICAN CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP will have its first meeting: October 2, 7 p.m., Social Science Hall, Room 100.

* The CHINESE ASSOCIATION at UCI (CAUCI) will hold a FALL ORIENTATION: October 3, 7 p.m., Social Science Lecture Hall, Room 100. Meetings will be held at the Cross-Cultural Center Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. starting October 10. Everyone is welcome.

* The UCI LACROSSE TEAM practices Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 5 to 8 p.m. at the new ARC playing fields.

* The LATTER-DAY SAINT STUDENT ASSOCIATION meets Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m., Interfaith Center.

* MODEL UNITED NATIONS meets Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:20 p.m., Social Science Plaza B, Room 1208.

* MODEL ARAB LEAGUE meets Tuesdays 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Social Science Lab, Room 159.

* IRVINE QUEERS meets Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., LGBT Resource Center, beginning October 1.

* HINDU STUDENTS COUNCIL meets Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., Cross Cultural Center. Everyone is welcome.

A panoramic mural showing highlights of the history of UC Irvine is located on the wall adjacent to the grand staircase of the UCI Bookstore. The mural consists of eight panels and traces the growth of the campus over the previous 35 years.
